Punctuality is important because it shows that a person is dedicated to being in place and ready to be productive and on time. Punctuality is the ability to be able to complete a task or complete a responsibility at a set time. This, in turn, shows that the individual has respect for the job at hand and the time it takes to complete the job. Punctuality also shows that the person has made a task a priority, and has made the necessary sacrifices to be present and ready to carry out performance duties. Another form of professionalism is trustworthiness. Trustworthiness is the ability to be relied upon to carry out and perform a task. Being trustworthy shows the that the person is truth-telling and upfront. A trustworthy person is known to be a person that carries out a task without being told, supervised, or reminded. A person of trustworthiness also carries out and acts on responsibilities in an exceptional and satisfying manner to all persons involved. Respect for others is also a form of professionalism. Accountability when something is wrong, and the mindset to take it upon oneself to make the situation better is also a form of professionalism. Being accountable is a major trait of professionalism. Ones accountability is welcomed in professionalism for a workplace, school, and in life because it creates a sense of ease and helps promote a safety measure and a sense of security for everyone involved. Accountability comes as a link that increases commitment to who and what is represented in an enclosed environment. Competency is another trait of professionalism. Being competent is a way to show the necessary skills, knowledge, and abilities well enough to meet a standard. Showing competency acts as a way for one to show that the task at hand is not overwhelming and can be managed. Competency in professionalism shows a combination of education and experience for a standard or status being reached and carried out as rules and regulations show. Self-Awareness is the ability to recognize your emotions and know personal strengths and weaknesses. In order to become self-aware, one must understand emotions, thoughts, and feelings pertaining to and knowing one selfs limitations. In professionalism, self-awareness teaches and sets a foundation of personal growth, the ability to understand and recognize emotions, and knowing how to control them. In my experience of self-awareness in the workplace, knowing my true limitations, flaws and weaknesses have kept me from making a career plunge. I knew that myself make-up and knowledge of self-saved me from the embarrassment of not reaching a job title or description because I knew I wasnt qualified for the position or didnt have the proper tools to carry out the job description in a respectable way. In conclusion, self-awareness is a measure of emotional intelligence that helps you stop reacting to circumstances emotionally and lets you choose to react rationally and with logic. In conclusion, in order to succeed and move ahead in a place of structure, such as a workplace school, or place of business, professionalism is needed to be portrayed. Professionalism, in turn, means to conduct oneself with punctuality, trustworthiness, respectfulness, accountability and being competent, while being a person of high expectation and responsibility, and also being a person of excellence and great productivity. High quality work standards, behavior, and effectiveness are a part of professionalism and what is expected to come with it. Whether in the work industry, school, or place of structure professionalism will stick out. A professional individual will be visible from others due to the aforementioned qualities and how they carry and present themselves as opposed to their colleagues. A professional strives to be the best and demonstrates separating characteristics to be noticed by the others. Professionalism is maintained by reflecting a strong image, building strong relationships, having recognizable quality traits and overall being a standup and stand out person.

Gym Candy Essay Example For Students

Gym Candy Essay What motivated Mick Johnson is that he got stopped at the one yard line at the champion ship game. By Mick Johnson getting stopped his team lost the champion ship title. During the offseason Mick started going to the gym and had his own personal trainer. His trainer Derek convinced him into taking steroids. The purpose of him taking steroid was to make him an overall better football player. In Mick’s freshman year he was such an overall good player that he made varsity running back in his freshman year. In the championship game his team lost and he thought the loss was his fault. We will write a custom essay on Gym Candy specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now He thought that he wasn’t good enough or strong enough. Mick thought by going to the gym and having his own personal trainer he could lift weights and do anything he needed to do get him stronger. His trainer Derek convinced him into taking steroids wouldn’t do any damage to him and that it would only make him better and help him with his future football career. I can identify myself with Mick Johnson in different ways. If I was in a championship game and my team lost because I got stopped a yard short from winning the championship game I would feel the same as Mick felt. I would feel as if I wasn’t good enough and would get down on myself. We both have similar desires in getting better and being the best in any sport that I play. When I do something I like I always try to be my best and put 100% effort into whatever is that I want to achieve. One way that Mick Johnson and I are different is when he decided to take steroids. At that time he knew that by taking steroids he would be cheating. I don’t cheat; I’d rather practice a lot so that I could get better. Three minor characters that added feeling to the story are Peter Volz, Mike Johnson, and Drew. Peter Volz was Mick’s personal trainer from the gym. He had a huge impact on the feeling from the story. Peter was the one who convinced Mick to take steroids and that it would only help him with his future in his football career. Peter told Mick it would help him for high school and also in the future, when all it would do is make him good for a short period of time and ruin his future football career and his life. Mike Johnson is Mick’s dad. He also gave feeling to the story. He always pushed him to being one of the best and was like his coach. His dad is the one who got him into football and helped him with everything. If it wasn’t for his dad he would have maybe never taken steroids, because his dad was the one who got him into the gym. Drew was one of Mick’s best friends. Drew was the one who caught Mick taking steroid and performance enhancing drugs. He notice that during the middle of the game he would always go in his bag to inject himself and he noticed that he always made sure that he let no one go in his bag. If it wasn’t for Drew maybe Mick would have never shot himself. The central conflict in the book is that Mick Johnson is taking steroids and he doesn’t realize how it will ruin his future football career. Peter Volz convinced him to take steroids and tells him that many people that go to the gym take steroids, get stronger, and that it doesn’t affect your health. He knew that if he got caught taking steroids it would end his career, and would not make it anywhere past high school football. Football was mostly Mick Johnson’s life. .uce04bfdf0a4edc09981cc3acf6f43b26 , .uce04bfdf0a4edc09981cc3acf6f43b26 .postImageUrl , .uce04bfdf0a4edc09981cc3acf6f43b26 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .uce04bfdf0a4edc09981cc3acf6f43b26 , .uce04bfdf0a4edc09981cc3acf6f43b26:hover , .uce04bfdf0a4edc09981cc3acf6f43b26:visited , .uce04bfdf0a4edc09981cc3acf6f43b26:active { border:0!important; } .uce04bfdf0a4edc09981cc3acf6f43b26 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .uce04bfdf0a4edc09981cc3acf6f43b26 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .uce04bfdf0a4edc09981cc3acf6f43b26:active , .uce04bfdf0a4edc09981cc3acf6f43b26:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .uce04bfdf0a4edc09981cc3acf6f43b26 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .uce04bfdf0a4edc09981cc3acf6f43b26 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .uce04bfdf0a4edc09981cc3acf6f43b26 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .uce04bfdf0a4edc09981cc3acf6f43b26 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .uce04bfdf0a4edc09981cc3acf6f43b26:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .uce04bfdf0a4edc09981cc3acf6f43b26 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .uce04bfdf0a4edc09981cc3acf6f43b26 .uce04bfdf0a4edc09981cc3acf6f43b26-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .uce04bfdf0a4edc09981cc3acf6f43b26:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: To Kill A Mocking Bird Argumentative EssayIn his sophomore year at a playoff game before the game he went to go inject him XTR to give him energy to play and make him stronger, it could also cause anger and depression. In the 4th quarter his team was down by 4 points and needed a touchdown to win the game. There was less the 10 seconds left on the clock and it was fourth and goal the last play of the game. They hand the ball off to their running back Mick Johnson and a linebacker of Foothill high tried to stop him but came up short and Mick Johnson ended up scoring the game winning touchdown. Shilshole high school made it to the state playoff game and there was no doubt without Mick Johnson that they wouldn’t have won it. When Mick got home he wanted to put the XTR into his safety closet and dug threw his bag and noticed that it wasn’t there. Drew called him and wanted to talk to him. They met at the park and Drew showed him the needle and the drug. He told him he was going to tell the coach and his football career would be over. Mick tried to stop him and pulled a gun out of his pocket and threatened to shoot him. Drew didn’t care and knew he wasn’t going to shoot his best friend. As Drew was leaving Mick put the gun to his head and he pulled the trigger. It turned out that only a twitch kept him alive and only grazed his head when he shot himself. Mick went to therapy for 3 weeks. Mick Johnson is left wondering if he’ll continue to be tempted by steroids. I learned lots of things from this book Gym Candy. I learned that cheating is not the right way, because it could always come back to you. For example, Mick cheated by using steroids and it caused him depression and almost ended up killing himself. Another thing I learned is what you want and what you get aren’t always the same. Mick Johnson couldn’t stand being and average football player he always wanted to be one of the best. The only thing what got him to be better was steroids; he would have never been as good as he wanted without. The last thing I learned was stay around positive people. Mick Johnson should have stuck with his friend Drew he was a hard worker and he never cheated and was determined to get better. Instead he chose to be around his trainer Peter Volz who gave him steroids instead of giving him what to do so he can get in better condition and stronger.

The Development of Language Teaching and Learning Theory

Language Development Introduction Language acquisition is a continuous process that begins early in life. The first language is usually easy to learn as it is introduced early in life. Children learn their first language through interaction with people who speak the language. This is usually easier than learning a second language as an adult.Advertising We will write a custom assessment sample on The Development of Language: Teaching and Learning Theory specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More The second or consecutive language acquisition occur simultaneously and later in life. Teaching a language can be challenging and will require understanding in order to be effective. Research on language acquisition or development has generated knowledge on the subject. This essay will discuss the development of language, and relate the theory to teaching and learning. Language Acquisition Challenges for teachers working on English as a Second Langu age Language acquisition begins early in life. Children learn by listening and experiences in their first language. The second language is often taught and children further learn it from experiences. Teachers should look for effective methods of teaching English to their students. The method should cater for the learning needs of all learners. The first challenge that the teacher should be able to overcome is to recognize learning challenges in their class and the needs of every student. This will help in the effective learning of a second language. The second language is often taught as a foreign language, alongside or after the acquisition of the first language. Students depend on the teacher to tell them the correct form of language. The teacher’s challenge is to encourage students to try and learn the language on their own. This is usually a difficult task because most students are not willing to try this, particularly because they fear making mistakes. Teachers encounter students who have persistent use of their first language. The teacher can encourage students to use English only and introduce punishments to students who use their first language. Poor class management and materials, as well as students who distract others pose a major challenge to the teachers. Discipline should be enforced. It is easy to divert from the lesson since the second language is secondary to the students. The teacher can avoid diverting the conversation and be keen to control students so that the students do not take over the class. Teaching resources and teaching aids designed for specific needs of different second language learners are sometimes hard to get. Students deliberately see the second language as difficult and do not engage in practice. Teachers of a second language fear that incorrect model of the first language may affect the learning of the second language (Ortega 2009).Advertising Looking for assessment on languages? Let's see if we can help you! G et your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Challenges for Teachers working of English as First Language Ortega (2009, p. 5) notes that, teachers who teach English as a First Language have challenges. The challenges include teaching materials, the design of the syllabus and learning exposure. Moreover, the techniques to be used in teaching, method of teaching, evaluation, and assessment designs are sometimes a challenge. The teacher has to come up with a method of interaction and understanding cognition of the students as they teach. The teacher’s exposure to the language and activities used in learning in and out of class pose a challenge. The teachers depend on other stakeholders to make teaching a success. They require a certain level of autonomy to teach the language. Other problems that the teacher may experience are lack of motivation, low confidence and nervousness. Teaching the skills and cultural concerns becomes more challenging if the teacher’s nati ve language is not English. To make teaching less challenging, all the required teaching materials should be provided. Adequate training and a relevant syllabus should also be availed. Gibbons (2006, p. 45) mentions that, the method of assessment, evaluation, and techniques used should go hand in hand with the needs of the students. If one of the requirements is missing, the process of teaching a language may not yield the desired results. Reference List Gibbons, P 2006, Bridge Discourses in the ESL Classroom, Continuum, London.
